Osun 2018: Ife And The Need To Wake Up Politically By Oluwaseun Salawu

I do not need to remind us that the politics of Osun State concerning the successor of Gov Rauf Aregbesola is gathering momentum.

One basic truth is that Ogbeni Aregbesola shall soon take a bow  and quit; another fact is that be it the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC or the major opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the baton shall soon exchange hands.

We shall soon begin another era, another episode of our dear life as a people. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola shall therefore become history.

The fact shall soon done on us that Aregbesola tried his best. He came, he saw and he conquered. It may not be all in all but certainly he shall remain a governor who turned many things around and someone who worked within his limited  resources.

I am from ile ife; no controversy, we are the proud origin of Yoruba Land. Ife is today the proportionally and the most noise maker on determination as  to people who wanted their son or daughter ruling from Abeere.

Yet, the community is the most primed and crisis driven area politically today in Osun state if not in Yoruba Land, that is the society where the  pull him down syndrome trails with indifferences and without caution.

No rally point and no basic leader to champion their courses, their senator never for once get their honour or respect, their Reps bet it serving or former is of no value to them, individualistic approaches is always the order of the day. Very disheartening indeed.

The last time I counted their ranks in the present state governances, I couldn't come up with  any green light.

Another round of politics is around the corner, without Ife votes, Buhari got to his promised land. Ife votes were removed from Aregbesola's in 2010, he still became the Governor, he lost Ife votes in 2014, he still became the executive governor...

Ife rejected their son as senator but he won with other people's votes and their Member House of Representatives was rejected only in his domain, but the  Ijesha were so different just like the Oyo speaking people, they are ever ready never to fight up to election day. The reverse is the case in Ife. Walai, I guess, Modakeke riot of then seems to have done more damages in our Brains.

All political gladiators are by now seriously working within Oyo dominated area  of Ife and by now bye passing Ife Central and maybe so also Ife East local government for that is the area where their votes appeared  guaranteed. Enmity never go beyond end of campaign day in these areas unlike Ife.

If not me, it must  NOT be him! That is Ife for you!

I was born by Ijebu woman for an Ife man and I love Ife like kilode. Please, can someone join me in waking my people from their gslumber...

Ko ti ri pe...se won sepe fun wa ni. Ote ti poju ni ile ife.
