Our Young People Are Indeed Partners In Progress – Adejare Bello

On Thursday, 10th May 2018, the Federation of Ede Youth Development Association (FEYDA) invited political stakeholders, elders and Ede Descendants Council (EDC) members to a closed door peace meeting between all political interests in Ede. The meeting was called to ensure that all aspirants who are indigenes of Ede commit themselves to pursuing their aspirations without violence, rancor or malice.

Barr. Rafiu Adejare Bello, one of the gubernatorial aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party was also present at this meeting. Due to certain reasons however, the town hall meeting was not held and was adjourned to a later date.

Speaking to his teeming supporters at the end of the meeting however, Adejare Bello stated that the meeting called by FEYDA reinforced his belief in the capacity of the younger generation to participate in violence-free democratic process. According to him, “if a youth association could be championing a peace accord in Ede land, we must all agree that our young people are ready to take the bull by the horn and become true partners in progress.”

He further stated that “gone are the days when youths were only willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians to carry out violent plans. Today, the youths are more than ready to partner with elders in building a peaceful, united and growing society.”

On the strength of this peace meeting in Ede land, Barr. Bello advised all aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party and other political parties to embrace peace and prosecute the upcoming gubernatorial elections in the spirit of peace, unity and love for the people. He said “we cannot violently grab the Governorship seat if we truly have the desire to serve the people and unite them. We must all therefore commit to making sure that the upcoming gubernatorial election holds without violence, rancor or hatred for anyone.”
