One of the governorship aspirants under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state,  Olawale Rasheed (MOR) has announced his withdrawal from the race to succeed incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the state.

He said "a lot" had happened since he indicated interest to contest the party's ticket saying he withdrew after a thorough study of the political machinery of the state.

In a statement he personally issued on Wednesday, Rasheed said, "In 2017, I indicated interest in the governorship of Osun state under the platform of the Peoples Democractic Party as a path to inject new blood into the political process. It is an ambition driven by passionate desire to serve our dear state through innovative policies and programmes.

"A lot has happened since then.We note the enthusiastic support we receive from youth activists, professionals and many leaders of our great party. Our 5-Point Agenda was applauded as a game changer.

"After a thorough review of the political space and due consultations with families and friends, I have taken the final decision to withdraw from the race for the governorship ticket of the PDP. I wish whoever emerges flagbearer of the party success at the poll in September.

"To my associates and supporters,we must not abandon the 5-Point Agenda. It is about rebuilding the state through local talents, enforcing humanity centered governance, creating wealth through government-business prosperity alliance and transparency in government through Open Government Initiative.

"I place on records my heartfelt appreciation to those who supported us to this level. The goal of entrenching a truly pro-people government is a task that must be accomplished in September.

"We are not away; we are actively participating in shaping the political and economic future of our dear state and Nigeria."
