Despite Not Too Young To Run Law, Young People Aren't Showing Desire In Political Leadership - Adetimehim

A House of Representatives aspirant under the Accord Party in Ekiti State, Prince Abiodun Adetimehin has bemoaned what he termed as the unserious dispositions of Nigerian youths towards their agitation in assuming political leadership positions in the country.

Adetimehin, who is aspiring for Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 seat in the lower chamber said unless the youths become more proactive and active in politics, the recently signed into Law Not Too Young to Run would end up as a mere document without much impact.

The aspirant made this known in a statement he issued in Ado Ekiti and made available to journalists.

He said Nigerian youths are not showing significant desire in providing the required political leadership for their generalisation.

Prince Adetimehin explained that such significant desire was not to merely express interest in political office for the purpose of fulfilling ego and survival,  but the young people must demonstrate capacity in their choosing fields to convince other strata of the citizenry of their readiness.

He expressed belief that if the youth interven in Agricultire, technical, entrepreneurial and other sectors of the country,  required solutions to the problems would be provided to the nation's challenges.

The Ikere Ekiti born Prince Adetimehin then charged youths to be organised and break the barrier of division deliberately orchestrated by the ruling elite to perpetuate themselves in power and hold the nations by the jugular.

He said the divisive mechanism of ethnicity, religion, geographical limitation being appeased to by the power conscious elite had polarised the country,  leaving more divided than it was before amalgamation.

The Accord House of Representatives hopeful charged young Nigerians to as a matter of urgency lead a campaign to stop political violence and monetization of the voting process.
